Which Way is The Way

Imagine being in a room with other people, blind folded, spun around several times, then asked which way is north. Arms, hands and fingers would fly out to point in all directions. If somebody was right, it would be by sheer luck.

But if asked instead to point to the ground, if someone could not do so, well … that person probably isn’t ready for a raise.

The ground is where we plant our feet. It’s stable. You can rely on it. You know where it is at all times. So it is with values, core beliefs and fundamental drivers of purpose and mission. These become the ground for you or your organization.

If you know where the ground is, you’ll eventually find which way is north, or the right way for where you want to go.
