Under the Rug

If you want to know something, at times you might have to look under the rug. Otherwise the truth or parts to the truth get brushed under and remain hidden.

You don’t know what you don’t know. As a leader or manager, you want to know as much as possible. Heck, the same is true no matter a job or role.

Everybody deserves a full plate of information when involved or connected to a project, situation or to the performance of a department or organization. Everybody who plays a part has a responsibility to share information. When important information is withheld, its like sweeping it under the rug.

I once scheduled an installation crew for an important job to be done that day. It turned out the job could not be done because the truck was broken down, had been broken down for days, but nobody wanted to tell management. The situation was hidden until a need came up that brought it out in the light.

The lesson I learned that day was that sometimes to be better prepared and proactive it might help to get up and go look under some rugs.
